Garland in Bloom

The Garland Bistro has been remodeled and is under new management, bringing changes such as sushi and Vietnamese dishes, an espresso and cappuccino bar, beer, wine and sake. The healthy vegetarian menu remains the same. The Garland is open daily, serving breakfast and lunch from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Dinner is served from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.

Primavera Cooks Kingfisher

The last of the summer fundraisers for Primavera ends with a splash at Kingfisher Bar and Grill on Sunday, Sept. 25, when chefs, both professional and apprentice, prepare a delicious meal paired with wines. The cost is $100 per person. RSVP at 323-7739; 2564 E. Grant Road.

Carol's Coffee Shop

Carol Mongan of Oro Valley decided her neighbors needed a friendly place to hang out, so she recently opened a coffee shop at 11143 N. La Cañada Drive. Carol makes everything from scratch--salads, lemon bars and scones--and uses Arivaca's Gadsden coffee and espresso by Illy. Open daily from 7 a.m.; hours vary, so call 742-2921. With no clock on the premises, Carol closes shop when she feels like it.

Sonoran Speakeasy

The Westward Look Resort throws the party of the century--the last century--on Sept. 22 complete with flappers, gangsters, Model T's and a swing sextet band. Kick up your heels at this Roaring '20s hot-jazz dinner dance that celebrates the resort's history of good-time entertainment. Don vintage attire. Start the night discreetly with cocktails served prohibition-style in coffee cups. Savor Chef Jamie West's tantalizing three-course extravaganza, then dance the night away. Don't know how to Charleston, tango or black bottom? No worry. Dance teachers will be on hand to get the energy flowing with photographers to record the moment. Drink bathtub gin or smoke a stogie upstairs and play roulette at the rooftop casino. Tickets are $55 per person, plus tax and gratuity. Doors open at 6 p.m. Dinner seating is at 6:30, 7 and 7:30 p.m.; dancing is from 8 to 11 p.m. For reservations and your speakeasy entry password, call 297-1151.
