Salsa Tasting Festival

Local merchants at Plaza Palomino are combining forces with 10 Mexican restaurants in an effort to boost business and celebrate the discounts available to Tucsonans who endure our hot summer months. Join the third annual Salsa Tasting Festival for free food, musical entertainment and dozens of gift certificate giveaways on Saturday, July 31, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participating restaurants include La Placita Café, Macayo's, Sanchez Burrito Co., Charro Grill, La Parrilla Suiza, Papagayo, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Las Cazuelita's, Mosaic Café and Firecracker Bistro. Plaza Palomino is located on the corner of Swan and Fort Lowell roads, and has refreshing misters to keep you cool.

Coming Soon to Plaza Palomino

In early to mid October, Red Sky Café will move into a larger space at the former Belden & Company, 2900 N. Swan Road. Owner and chef Steven Schultz said that the expanded Red Sky will have a separate bar area and exude casual elegance. The current digs at 1661 N. Swan Road may or may not remain open, but if it does, the name will change.

Primavera Cooks Bistro Zin

The Primavera Foundation continues its summer fund-raiser on Aug. 4 at Bistro Zin. The menu features poached lump crab, charred lobster consommé, crispy duck breast and petite beet salad, mustard-crusted lamb chop with root vegetables and frozen hazelnut soufflé. Each course will be paired with a special wine. The cost is $100; call 577-8100 for reservations.

Sinatra Sunday

Old Blue Eyes croons on at Fuego's live dinner show on Aug. 1 . Dinner seating is from 6-6:45 p.m. and features a three-course prix-fixe menu for $35-$45 per person. The show starts at 7. For reservations, call 886-1745; Fuego's is located at 6958 E. Tanque Verde Road.

Haute Dog Happy Hour

At J Bar, try a grilled hot dog with all the fixings, plus chipotle crema and fries for $2.75; don't forget the half-priced drinks from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at 3770 E. Sunrise Drive.
