The Mr. K's on Stone Has Closed

As announced on their Facebook page, the Mr. K's location on Stone Avenue near River Road closed on Sunday, Oct. 13. Richard Yellot of the restaurant's management company, Ironwood Dining, blamed the closure on "the same old story of business and economics."

Celebrate Porktober

October is National Pork Month, and to showcase the savory meat, Mercado San Augustin, 100 S. Avenida del Convento, is hosting Porktober, a swine-tastic cooking competition on Friday, Oct. 18, in which some of Tucson's top chefs will present their favorite takes on pork. Samples will be available for $5 each, or you can go whole hog and buy the $24 pass, which gets you six samples. Passes can be purchased at the Mercado on the night of the event.

A Taste of the Craft Brew Biz

A unique beer experience for those who are into more than just drinking a ton of it, (not that there's anything wrong with that) is on tap Thursday, Nov. 7, at the downtown Thunder Canyon Brewery, 220 E. Broadway Blvd. Branding Your Brew—Tucson 20X20 is a "hoppy" celebration of Tucson's craft brew industry. The event includes beer sampling along with a look at the business of craft brewing through Pecha Kucha presentations, which are slide shows that feature 20 slides for 20 seconds each (hence the 20X20). They're designed to keep the action moving while also being informative. Tickets are $20 to $30 and space is limited to 50 people. Sign up at arizona.aiga.org/event/branding-your-brew-tucson-20x20.

Falora Gets National Notice

Like most national websites, Eater.com loves the art of the list, but, hey, when something from Tucson shows up on one of those indices, it's still good news. This time, Ari Shapiro's Falora made the honor roll of America's best pizzerias to open within the last 12 months. If you want to taste what earned the midtown spot national buzz, visit 3000 E. Broadway Blvd.
