Nine Questions

Dave Carroll

Dave Carroll is a mild-mannered couch potato by day, and the kitchen boss at the Surly Wench Pub by night. He also keeps busy by booking and promoting shows with the Church of Rock Revelations and playing guitar in local bands Inoculara and Black Titan. He moved to Tucson in the summer of 1999 and has still not received a ticker-tape parade.

What was the first concert you ever saw?

The first show I ever went to was a local grindcore show in Havelock, N.C. A few months later, my mom took me to see Van Halen with Alice in Chains. I was 13.

What are you listening to these days?

The Godhunter/Methra split 10-inch; Limbless Torso self-titled 12-inch; D.B.F.O.S./Awful Truth split 7-inch; and the Inoculara mixes that we are about to put out.

What was the first album you owned?

Fear No Evil by Grim Reaper.

What artist, genre or musical trend does everyone seem to love, but you just don't get?

The Beatles. Two down, two to go. And Monster Pussy. That's not punk.

What musical act, current or defunct, would you most like to see perform live?

The Clash.

Musically speaking, what is your favorite guilty pleasure?

Poison. Especially "Unskinny Bop."

What song would you like to have played at your funeral?

"Hurt" as performed by Johnny Cash.

What band or artist changed your life, and how?

Neurosis. Listen to Enemy of the Sun on a few hits of acid, and by the time the second song kicks in, you (will) have just sat through 10 minutes of what-the-fuck.

Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?

His Hero Is Gone, Monuments to Thieves.
