New Year, New Words on the Avenue

Listen, Tucson—especially those folks who like to recognize local arts gems: Please put Teré Fowler-Chapman and Words on the Avenue on your list. Better yet, go to this week's poetry venue and open mic—the first of the year—on Sunday, Jan. 25, 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Cafe Passe, 415 N. 4th Ave. Fowler-Chapman, new executive director of the Tucson Poetry Festival, is founder of this popular poetry night. Tucson's TC Tolbert, author of "Gephyromania," is the featured poet. Tolbert, an adjunct professor at the UA, is also assistant director of Casa Libre and a faculty member in the low residency MFA program at OSU-Cascades. (For more on Tolbert's work, visit www.tctolbert.com.) The 7 p.m. open mic is for all community writers to share short stories, fiction, poetry, prose, thoughts, diary entries, etc. Roch Mirabeau joins Fowler-Chapman as hosts. Suggested donation is $5.
