Most Affirming Mural

You might never see it if you don't live in the neighborhood. Most attention goes to the barrio's southern end, to the spectacular murals of Oury Park and this pocket community's newest attraction, the Bicycle Church at Granada Avenue/Main Avenue and Davis Street. No, this tiny park seems anonymous, even neglected and weedy, tucked away in the shadow of Interstate 10, a short block west of the railroad tracks. But its mural depicts proud folks whose names are no doubt still known here, and a market building that remains a landmark. The mural abides, offering a reminder: "Sufrimos mucho. Eramos pobres pero triumphamos y fuimos mejores."
