Godzilla 3D

There’s certainly enough that’s good about Godzilla from which to build a monster movie, but it shouldn’t have been this one. Surprisingly smart and well-acted in the first hour, the latest Godzilla simply can’t match the early style and intrigue with the CGI beasties it hurls our way. With Bryan Cranston as a nuclear physicist investigating an alleged disaster at a Japanese plant and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass) as his soldier son, Godzilla gives us two compelling characters to rally around. And that’s all great until the monsters are finally unleashed, appear to be impervious to any armament, and do so much damage to San Francisco that it would make The Avengers blush. It goes without saying that there have been worse Godzilla movies – most of them, in fact – but this one had real potential before going the lazy city-crushing route of lesser action flicks.

Godzilla 3D is not showing in any theaters in the area.
