Frozen

It’s been years since Disney has given us not only an entertaining family film but one loaded from beginning to end with memorable, imaginative songs. In that sense, Frozen is kind of a throwback, even if its story relies heavily on digital animation and, to a lesser degree, 3-D. The fulcrum of the story is a princess cursed with a freezing touch that can instantly turn anything into ice. But the centerpiece is the princess’ sister, Anna (Kristen Bell), who tries to save her sister from the curse and fall in love with either a dashing prince or the local ice salesman. The sense of humor is spot-on throughout and Bell should be a lifer in animation. As for the songs, they’re composed by Robert Lopez (the Tony-winning Book of Mormon and Avenue Q) and his wife, Kristen Anderson-Lopez, so that they’re ear candy should be no surprise at all.

Frozen is not showing in any theaters in the area.
