It ultimately doesn’t matter what Enough Said is. It’s always going to be remembered as James Gandolfini’s last movie. Gandolfini, whose Tony Soprano is the reason cable TV programming is at its Breaking Bad best right now, died suddenly this summer in Italy. But he left us with the kind of performance we never saw enough of. Enough Said is a romantic comedy, more wry and insightful than any Kate Hudson movie, and Gandolfini is paired with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, arguably one of the best comediennes of all time. They work well together, and third wheel Catherine Keener is terrific, as usual. Director Nicole Holofcener has been uneven (Friends with Money, Please Give), but she hits the mark here, crafting a nice script that allows for a terrific cast to make the situations their own. Really good stuff, and a fine, bittersweet swan song for a great talent like Gandolfini.
