Some Tucson groups that empower people to make viable choices that are better for the Earth and life than the status-quo quick fix:

  • Women Who Build Houses: teaches permaculture building skills. 206-8000; 326-1217.
  • The Organic Gardeners: meets monthly to promote organic gardening techniques. 670-9158.
  • BICAS: teaches people to build their own bikes and offers art classes. 44 W. Sixth St., basement. 629-7950.
  • Unity Church: a Metaphysical Church affiliated with the Association of Unity School of Christianity, involved with a lower grade school, health ministry and art gallery. 3617 N. Camino Blanco. 577-3300.
  • Farmacy Gardens: Tucson's community organic garden where low-income singles work for food. 622-2241.
  • Tucson Open U: offers self-empowerment classes free or at low cost. 622-0170.
  • Living Community Center: self-improvement classes at low cost. 330 E. Seventh St. 623-0913.
  • Tucson Traders: barter network. 388-8844.
