Not since Boris Karloff narrated the classic Christmas Grinch tale has Dr. Seuss gotten such a good screen treatment. Jim Carrey voices Horton, a big-hearted elephant who swears he can hear voices on a floating dust speck, much to the chagrin of those living in his jungle community. Steve Carell plays the mayor of Whoville, who makes contact with Horton and realizes his is not the only inhabited world in the universe. This is a good-natured, adventurous animated film that captures the charms of Seuss, while maintaining a modern feel. Carrey delivers a warm and sweet vocal performance, allowing himself to riff on occasion but keeping things relatively mellow. Seth Rogen, Carol Burnett, Jonah Hill and Isla Fisher provide voices as well.
