Dolan Ellis in Concert

Saturday, Aug. 23, St. Cyril of Alexandria Church, 4725 E. Pima St.

"I write the songs but not for fame. My songs belong to the sun and rain. Forget my face, forget my name. Just call me The Balladeer." Those lyrics, written by Arizona's Official State Balladeer, Dolan Ellis, are just a sample of lyrics in one of the hundreds of songs he has created since being appointed the State Balladeer in 1966. After Governor Sam Goddard selected Ellis for the position, each consecutive governor has continued to endorse Ellis.

Ellis will perform on Saturday, Aug. 23, at St. Cyril of Alexandria Church, 4725 E. Pima St., in his sole appearance in Tucson this year. The concert will feature Ellis singing his signature ballads, folk songs and tall tales. The event is a fundraiser for the Arizona Alzheimer's Foundation.

In addition to his role as State Balladeer, Ellis continues to tour with the folk music group the New Christy Minstrels. He won a Grammy as a member of the group in 1963. Ellis is also the founder of the Arizona Folklore Preserve in Hereford.

Tickets for the concert are $15 available at the door. To reserve tickets early, call 907-8975. This is an all-ages concert but is not recommended for children younger than 7 years old.
