The Barb horse of the Spanish Colonial era carried explorers, missionaries and, eventually, Native Americans throughout Mexico and the Southwest. The Amerind Foundation explores the animal's influence in a day of demonstrations and presentations by Apache historian Dale Curtis Miles, a representative of the Father Kino Society, and Silke Schneider, author of Arizona's Spanish Barb. Children's activities, Native American food and local artisans also are featured from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 27. $5. Call or visit spanishbarb.org for more information.
