Cheap Thrills

WINDS OF FORTUNE. Experience a sweet blend concocted by St. Philip's Friends of Music.

The works of Johannes Brahms, Ludwig van Beethoven and Anton Reicha are featured in Saturday's concert of chamber music for strings, winds and voice.

Cleveland Orchestra cellist Harvey Wolfe will perform, along with local clarinetist John Snavely, flutist Sandy Schwoebel, violinist Alan Brundage, mezzo-soprano Joan Brundage and piantist Leslie Dukes.

Songs by Brahms and a trio by Beethoven are among the featured selections in the performance that begins at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Bloom Music Center Recital Hall at St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church, at River Road and Campbell Avenue.

The public is invited and the concert is free, but donations will be accepted at the door. For more information, call 299-6421, ext. 32.

THE KEYS TO TUCSON. I have never met anyone who could actually play one, so when I read that the Accordion Club of Tucson would be playing, I wondered immediately how many people belonged to such an organization.

If you're like me, you are simply dying to find out.

Find out, as Steve Yool and the Accordion Club of Tucson perform from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Bookman's, 1930 E. Grant Road. For more information, call 325-5767 or visit www.bookmans.com.

PICS AND PAINTINGS. Stop by the Murphey Gallery Sunday afternoon for a reception for Lucy Masterman and Jay W. Smith.

The gathering, from 2 to 4 p.m., will mark the opening of an exhibition featuring Masterman's watercolors and Smith's landscape photographs. The show continues through January 31.

The Murphey Gallery is located at St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church at River Road and Campbell Avenue. Gallery hours are 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. For more information, call 577-2337 or 577-4685.
