Celebrate Music

A couple of notes to pass along ...

· On Wednesday, June 16, the Tucson Weekly will be sponsoring the 11th annual Tucson Area Music Awards, aka the TAMMIES. This free concert, which is the final event at the Rialto Theatre before it closes its doors for a while (for more info on this, see Soundbites, page 49), is something you shouldn't miss. Scheduled performers include the Nick Luca Trio, the Knockout Pills, Greyhound Soul, Brian Bromberg and others.

Not to sound corny or anything, but the TAMMIES are something you should really support, as this is a free event that serves strictly to celebrate local music. It's not a money-making enterprise; the Tucson Weekly and the Rialto make very little, if any, cash off the event. And I certainly didn't get any extra money for counting all those TAMMIES ballots.

I'll see you there at the Rialto, 318 E. Congress St., on Wednesday, June 16. The show gets started at 7:30 p.m.

· There's a change in the Weekly family you should know about. Carrie Stern, our City Week editor, has departed the paper to dedicate herself full-time to graduate school. She's still part of the family, though, as she'll be a freelancer for us here and there. She's being replaced by Laurel Allen, who has served as the copy editor for the Weekly and our sister publication, Inside Tucson Business, since March. She'll still be our copy editor, too.

We wish Carrie nothing but the best. And if you're one of the many folks who sends listings to our City Week editor, be sure to say hi to Laurel.
