Letterboxing

Staff Pick

After a couple of decades in Tucson, you may think you've seen it all. We did--until we discovered letterboxing. Part treasure hunt, part art-making adventure, letterboxing sends people out hunting for boxes hidden all over town. Some are long hikes; some are quick drive-bys. Every box we've found has connected us to unique places in Tucson and the surrounding desert. Each box contains a hand-carved stamp that we stamp in our personal logbooks, like a passport stamp. Then we stamp our personal homemade signature stamp in the logbook we find hidden in the box. Finally, we re-hide the box so no one will ever find it--except for another letterboxer. Wanna play? Clues for more than 100 boxes in Tucson and thousands nationwide are online at letterboxing.org.
