Heading off into the sunset is a grand old Western movie cliché. You can follow that rugged tradition right here at home-try walking across the city. You'll need someone to drop you off and pick you up. Start at the crack of dawn sometime during the late fall, in winter or in early spring. (Only crazy people do this in the summer.) Begin at the east end of Speedway Boulevard. Bring water, snacks and a big hat. Start walking west. Have lunch somewhere in town. Arrive at Gates Pass at the end of the day, and await the sunset and your ride. This is the very best way to get to know the city, and you probably don't know anyone else who's ever done it.
