Some days, it seems like Tucson invented heat, but in response, its people invented an antidote—raspados. The shaved-ice concoctions are best served from the Oasis Raspados location in the little white shack on St. Mary's Road. Any time is a good time for raspados, but the only time they are truly curative is when monsoon season begins, and the swamp cooler stops working. The heaps of ice with fruit, housemade fruit syrups and ice cream cool you from the inside out. As you slurp the creamy, icy goodness with fresh fruit, you'll think to yourself, "Life is good. I can live without an air conditioner for another summer. I will survive."
