Char's Thai Restaurant

Readers Pick

A Thai altar greets guests entering Char's Thai restaurant, replete with golden offerings and faux roses. The tables are one-of-a-kind creations, topped by glass-covered photos of tigers, huskies, more roses and celebs such as Celine Dion, Jamie Lee Curtis and J-Lo in evening gowns. Delightfully, there is no apparent organizing principle. But the most colorful and magical aspect of Char's is, of course, the food. The freshest of vegetables and meat are combined exquisitely in traditional dishes such as panang curry and pad prig sod. The vegetarian tom yum soup bursts with lemongrass, and fresh lime juice is rumored to cure all manner of ailments, from the flu to an old-fashioned hangover--or even a broken heart.
