Tucson Madonnari Chalk Festival

Staff Pick

For two years now, the Tucson Madonnari Chalk Festival has overtaken the sidewalks outside of the Joel D. Valdez Main Library one weekend in April with gorgeous scenes created by local artists. Something about watching the artists color with chalk on the ground seems to strike a chord with children in a way that regular-old art hanging on a wall just can't. And there are loads of other creative activities and events to wow 'em away from the television, for at least a day. And who knows? Maybe for their birthday, they'll ask for some chalk instead of an Xbox.
