Best Performing Artist

Flam Chen

STAFF PICK: A Flam Chen performance is always worth the effort of finding out where and when it will be held. Their performance of Rites of Spring, held in their Lucky Street Studio space, pushed all their technical and aesthetic limits. This show featured all the usual feats of spinning, balancing fire, eating fire, moments of delicate poignancy, erotic charge and pure visual beauty. But when the giant bug with flaming wings and antennae flew up the wall of the warehouse and stood boinging and bobbing 25 feet above us, we were truly awestruck. Before long, Flam Chen will get discovered; we hope this group of adventurous, creative minds remembers to come back and perform for us poor lowly Tucsonans between gigs at Lincoln Center.

(Sorry, no information is currently available for other years in this same award category.)
