Benson Highway

STAFF PICK: If a trip down memory lane (never mind the rough edges) fits your itinerary, there's a half-mile stretch of asphalt worth your consideration. The old Benson Highway is located in the southwest sector of our modern metropolis. It lies there in an anemic state, within the shadow of the interstate highway that brought it to submission -- not unlike so many other formerly vital American avenues of commerce rendered lifeless by the coming of the superhighway. This once-vibrant artery to the aorta of our Pueblo of the Past is littered with potsherds of post WWII wonder. Fragmented as it now may be, there's still enough intact to visualize how it all fit together decades ago, serving locals and travelers alike.
