Best Nixon Impersonation in a Dance Performance

Thom Lewis

Staff Pick

Picture dancer-choreographer Thom Lewis in a Southern preacher's white shirt, skinny black tie and black pants. Then listen for the gravelly voice of Tom Waits. Add comical knee-padded gyrations, and you've got Lewis' "Speaking in Tongues," a dynamite solo in the FUNHOUSE movement theater Southern Cross concert last spring. The greatest moment came when Lewis raised his shoulders ear high, put a Nixonian grimace on his face and unfurled his fingers into the victory sign. Voilà: Tricky Dicky, dance-style.
