Club Congress

Readers Pick

Um, shouldn't there be some sort of award retirement rule in cases like this by now? The Club that is Congress wins this thing every year, dammit. I mean, you try coming up with something new to say every time the Best of Tucson™ issue rolls around. Still, there's a reason CC wins this category perennially. I mean, what's not to love? Depending on what night of the week it is, you can wiggle what yer maker gave you on the dance floor to anything from Men Without Hats to Eddie Harris to Front 242. What's that? You save your best moves for your living room, preferring to publicly just bob your way-too-cool head to live rock 'n' roll/hip-hop/classical/folk/blues/everything else music? The Congo's got you covered there, too: from Robyn Hitchcock to Murs, Andy Dick to the MC5, Raekwon to The Rapture, Matt Haimovitz to Camper Van Beethoven, not to mention just about every local act you can name-all have graced the stage of Club Congress in the last year. Oh, wait. Did we mention the fact that the club layout was reconfigured in March to expand the number of clubgoers who can actually see what's happening on stage? We didn't? Shit. What about the improvement in sound quality that came along with it? No? Sorry; we meant to. Suffice it to say that a night out at Club Congress is better these days than, well, than it usta be. And that's pretty damn good.
