Best New Bookstore

Barnes and Noble

If the bookselling industry were a competitive sport, Barnes and Noble would be like the UA basketball team used to be--a sort of unstoppable juggernaut (but without the guy with the hair). The chains have pretty much destroyed the competition, and B&N is the biggest and baddest of them all, making them our readers' perennial choice for Best New Bookstore. Who knows what will happen when Google succeeds in its evil plot to convert all of our reading material into electrons? Until that day happens, you can still buy books. And if you can't find it on the shelf, they'll order it.

Runners up:

2. Borders, 5870 E. Broadway Blvd., 584-0111; 4235 N. Oracle Road, 292-1331; borders.com

3. Antigone Books, 411 N. Fourth Ave., 792-3715, antigonebooks.com
