STAFF PICK: Okay, gringos, listen up! Mariscos is Spanish for seafood, and at any of Mariscos Chihuahua's three locations, you'll find fruits of the sea galore. The specialty of the house seems to be the shrimp cocktail, which is about as far away from the typical as you're likely to get. This intoxicating cocktail more closely resembles a bowl of gazpacho than the ubiquitous appetizer. The shrimp, which are consummately fresh, are laced into a chilled, piquant tomato broth studded with minced onion, pepper and enticing bits of finely chopped tomato. There's nothing finer on a sultry afternoon than a sip of this restorative soup. Also delicious is the ceviche, which is scooped cold onto the waiting bed of a corn tostada. Why some people shy away from this traditionally raw dish (the fish is "cooked" in citrus juice), we'll never know. We do know that if you abstain on principle, you'll be missing one of the wonders of the culinary world. The minced shrimp and seafood is sweet and reveals a white (cooked) appearance. The lime's citrus splash and a bit of minced onion add just the right pizzazz to the scrumptious dish. (Word of warning: order two.) Adventurous souls will also appreciate the Seven Seas soup, a melting pot of shrimp, white fish, octopus, and other sea fare not readily recognizable to the desert-bound. We're not entirely sure what these goodies are, but they're mighty tasty. Besides, we've learned some questions are best left to the imagination. Just enjoy.
