The Buffet

Readers Pick

According to Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary (11th Edition), the word "lowbrow" means "of, relating to, or suitable for a person with little taste or intellectual interest." Well, there you go. Where else but the Buffet can you walk in the door and be greeted by some tall, skinny punk washing dishes behind the bar in a knit cap—and witness him giving a normal, attractive-looking young lady the finger, a gesture presented solidly, professionally, with no mercy attached? Warren Zevon's song "Lawyers, Guns, and Money" goes through your head as you order a beer and study the weird mix of college kids, drunks and the potentially mentally ill. Ah, paradise!
