OK, so Desert Pet Center is technically a pet store, but there are so many animals inside, it might as well be a zoo. Located conveniently down the street a couple of miles east of the actual zoo, Desert Pet Center allows you closer access to the animals they have for sale, without the blistering heat. Stroll around the air-conditioned store, and you'll see turtles, more fish than the larger corporate pet stores, lizards, frogs, snakes, dogs, a whole room full of chattering birds, a pond with a big mama of a koi (who is not for sale) and a meowing bird named Birdo. Yes, that's right. He meows. Oh, and you should probably remember to stock up on dog food while you're there.
