READERS' PICK: The mere variety of food at the Cup makes it a pleaser for everyone in your breakfast, lunch or dinner party! The choices range from your American Real Beef Burger to the Lox & Capers on the lunch menu, and from the Beef Tenderloin to the Vegetable Curry on the dinner menu. Both menus boast a delicious array of appetizers that include the hummus plate, picacho nachos and the oh-so-fabulous Heartbreaker--which consists of French brie melted with artichokes and apple slices, served with a baguette. They also have mouth-watering dessert selections, ranging from apple or blueberry pies, to cakes and cookies. We also must mention that the Cup opens bright and early, at 7 a.m., serving up delicious breakfasts for you morning types out there. Our enjoyment of the great food is further enhanced by the amazing ambiance of the Cup. The energy of the dining room is charged--every table is involved in animated conversation. The mesh of people is amazing. From professors, professionals and students to skaters, hippies, punks and your regular Joe, the Cup is great for all.

READERS' POLL RUNNER-UP: Coffee Etc., 2830 N. Campbell Ave.; 6091 N. Oracle Road; 1101 N. Wilmot Road. This place is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but only partly because it's open 24 hours a day. People rave about the breakfasts, but we like the open-faced hot sandwiches like the roast-beef concoction known as the Sacramento. They also have monster burgers, cooked perfectly to order, and, as always, their signature fries, those perfectly seasoned circles from heaven.
