Lynn Redgrave in Rachel and Juliet

In January, the Invisible Theatre coaxed Lynn Redgrave to Tucson for two performances at the Berger Performing Arts Center. In recent years, Redgrave had supplemented her impressive acting credits with writing for the stage, often focusing on her life as a member of one of theater's most acclaimed families. It was widely known that Redgrave had breast cancer, diagnosed late in 2002. But believing in the healing power of theater, Redgrave pressed on, crafting Shakespeare for My Father, Nightingale and Rachel and Juliet, a tribute to her mother which weaves together memories, personal letters and passages from Shakespeare. Eloquent, smart and beautifully delivered, her performances here were to be her last: Redgrave died on May 2. What a gift to have witnessed this talented and gracious woman's final bow.
