Logan Phillips—aka DJ Dirtyverbs—got hooked on cumbia in the early 2000s while living in the central Mexican state of Querétaro. Upon returning to Tucson, he didn't find a space that gave the Afro-Latin American genre love, so he made one. El Tambó's been going strong for two years, popping up every few months or so. Thanks to these tropical dance parties, Tucsonenses have opened their hearts to cumbia, and other legendary music styles from south of the border.
