Carnitas is a bit of an underdog of the meat choices at Mexican restaurants. Sure, not in the realm of somewhat adventurous choices like cabeza or lengua, but despite our country's general love affair with pork, the default option for most diners is beef, whether carne asada, carne seca, barbacoa or even machaca. Carnitas only shows up in one of El Charro's combo meals. Still, El Charro does the pig proud with their slow cooked roast. Skip the carne seca sometime and give it a shot.
