Besides having one of the best bar names known to mankind, this hangout seems to attract different groups for different reasons. You'll see a good number of tattooed rockabilly types, tough chicks and punk rockers, in addition to the other wild and wooly denizens of Fourth Avenue. Concerts are frequent, with lots of local acts and the occasional themed DJ nights. Of course, the Surly Wench also is the home of the world-famous Black Cherry Burlesque, an old-time burlesque show with a modern twist—one in which the women are sexy for their own enjoyment, not the leering eye of the "other."
