I thank you Betts for taking the time to write this explanation of the layered problems with this prop. I was going to vote for it simply knowing that ed. here desperately needs funding, but I am changing my vote--and my husband's! We are a low income family for serious health reasons, and I am returning to UA. We receive the state ed. subsidies for my daughter who attends a fantastic small private school with class sizes of 10. No violence, no fear. The students and faculty make a community that could not occur in a large school. I don't understand how the finances work, but you can bet that I will continue use this system to educate my daughter who actually likes going to school and is college-bound--without the constant ridiculous tests. Alas I fear this, mysterious to me, subsidy is given at the expense of public education which is broken in Az. I encourage everyone I know to apply for the state fin. aid for their K-12 to attend private schools if they desire a safe, individualized, fun, and good education--especially when the public system is so broken. It's not a long term solution for the public ed. but at least some children will be well-educated and ready for college. They will also want to go to college because school has been a positive experience and their cohorts are going to college. Perhaps the coming generation will help make Arizona public ed. better than the national joke it is now.
