Oh, my god! Please! Can we give it a rest? So much of this is nothing but unadulterated trash. I couldn't stomach past the part about 'The Kid' shooting "Windy" Cahill. That was so long ago debunked and yet it still keeps making the rounds. Ah! But you'll buy hook, line, and stinker of the preposterous tale of Billy living to old age! Oh, yeh. And the "Wanted" poster? It's also a total fake. Didn't show up until sometime in the 1940's, I believe. (They wanted that poor kid then? Still?)
Truth is, Billy was killed at the age of around 19 - far from the 21 years claimed by Pat Garrett, who knew little about Billy other than what he was told by Billy, himself.
The truth is, Billy was considered quite a handsome young man by those who knew him - and even those who didn't like him more often than not would grudgingly admit he was a good looking kid.
Truth is, most of what is 'thought to be true' about Billy comes from a book ghost written by one hack journalist by the name of Ash Upson for Pat Garrett. Garrett had delusions of grandeur and aspirations of becoming the first Governor of New Mexico when it became a state.
Truth is, Garrett tore up the coroner's death certificate and dictated one declaring Billy to be 21 years old and shot in the chest, not in the back. (It wouldn't look good for a man wanting to be governor to shoot a nineteen year old kid in the back now, would it?)
Oh, yeh. Another bit of truth. Pat Garrett and Billy were not really friends. They played cards together. In fact, the first time they played, Billy was probably 14, and he strolled into the bar where Garrett worked. Garrett figured to take the kid's money and send him on his way. "The Kid" took Pat's money, instead. And Garrett held a grudge against him ever after for embarrassing him in his own saloon, though they did play often after and, reports have it that Garrett, once he learned not to underestimate the kid, held his own... more or less.
Truth is, this bit of tripe is so full of inaccuracies and outright falsehoods that it should have a warning label notifying any readers that it is pure fiction.
Truth is, it appears the "author", Mr. Leo Banks, obviously failed to do ANY fact checking before he hit his button.
Truth is... there is very little truth in this piece.
