Re: “Beyond the Bump and Grind

The Tucson burlesque scene is indeed thriving, with Black Cherry Burlesque (Tucson's, and possibly Arizona's, longest-running troupe) and Don't Blink Burlesque as the two main thriving troupes in town that put on shows on a regular basis (monthly and weekly, respectively). I encourage everyone to partake of all the burlesque shows that this scene has to offer, as they provide different perspectives on and interpretations of burlesque. There are at least two or three other shows that occur on a semi-regular basis in town... Switchblade Parade, Whiskey Breath Burlesque, and Book Club Burlesque, all at various venues. Although our town is small, the breadth of our scene is vast.

However, I'd like to bring attention to the fact that there is another troupe in town of male performers; there are more than three "boylesque" performers in this scene. As one of the three, I'd like to bring readers to the attention of The Manly Manlesque Show, a quarterly male burlesque revue and troupe that has been putting on shows for the past year at The Surly Wench Pub (Black Cherry's venue). Although there is a tendency to label all male burlesque as "boylesque," The Manly Manlesque show offers a new eponymous -esque ('manlesque") that showcases a different aesthetic (a cis-gender male-next-door perspective, we can call it). Our shows are highly popular in the local scene and enjoyed by women *and* men of all gender expressions and sexual orientations.

As one of the members of The Manly Manlesque Show, I'd also like to inform readers that we are having our next show on Friday November 21st, 2014. There are four dedicated members of our troupe: Magic Kenny Bang-Bang, Rooster, Patch and myself. "Boylesque" performer three in town, Paco Fish, is guest performing at The Manly Manlesque Show, and we have a couple of new performers as well who will be gracing the stage for the first time. Tickets and information can be found on http://www.manlesque.com/.

I once again encourage the readers to seek out shows for all the burlesque troupes and revues in Tucson. Come to the Arizona Burlesque Festival going on this weekend, come to Black Cherry Burlesque's monthly shows every first Friday at the Surly Wench Pub, to Don't Blink Burlesque's shows every Tuesday night at The Hut, to the Manly Manlesque Show this November 21st (also at the Surly Wench Pub), and seek out the smaller troupes and revues (Switchblade Parade, Whiskey Breath Burlesque, and Book Club Burlesque. Partake of all that this scene has to offer: the old, the new, the unconventional :)

Sincerely,

Rambo Reza

Re: “Try The Cocktober Fest

We all put a lot of work into our acts. We take our work seriously. The music, the choreography, the costumes: just like the talented ladies, we put heart and soul into our acts. We're not objects, we're performers. It's about the tease, not the sleaze ;)
