I just spent 6 months in Palm Springs. I go there off and on because it's just so amazingly gorgeous, CLEAN, free of graffitti, slow-paced, and there are unlimited things to see and do (the likes of Coachella Valley Preserve, among them, which are ignored by locals) in the desert, mountains, oases, and on and on. (A poolside, fully furnished condo can be had in the summer off season for $600/month, all utilities included, BTW). It's also the most weirded-out place I've ever been to. MUCH more so than Tucson, in fact. If not for the transient SoCal moneyed folks, it would not even exist, for sure. As far as the gay realm? It's estimated that half of the 40,000 people in Palm Springs are gay. However, every one of the gay men I met told me the same thing: "It's impossible to meet a man here!". The straights and gays have limited interaction, although I never noticed any inkling of any intolerance whatsoever. The article is correct- there is not a single noteworthy news source in that valley. Mostly, small rags written by bored wealthy women for something to do? The Daily Sun is a waste of paper. I'm looking forward to this new source of information, because 'nothing' in Palm Springs is what it appears to be...
