The folks that so vocally and viciously oppose the Mexican American Studies program on these boards sound far more hateful than any student or teacher from the M.A.S. program that I've met, regurgitating all the right wing radio talking points meant to stir up Republicans with completely baseless claims of anti-white racism and anti-Americanism. In reality, none of these detractors have ever stepped inside one of these classrooms, and most have never read a single book of the M.A.S. curriculum. I on the other hand have done both and as a parent, historian and educator (who also happens to be white), I can honestly attest to the academic soundness or the program, the good hearts of the teachers, the benefit to its students and the real loss for Tucson and its students that this program was eliminated.
