As a native downtown Tucsonan, local musician and media artist I'm not really feeling this article. I think you mistake the political and cultural weaknesses of Arizona with Tucson as does the rest of the U.S. Downtown Tucson has always been a bastion of progressive thinking, art, music and culture despite the rest of Arizona. It's been that way since I moved here in the 70's. Some may even say that Tucson is just now starting to lose it's soul due to the blind gentrification of downtown. The culture and color gets pushed out due to high rent as a glossy facade is constructed to attract the suburbanites and their money. Perhaps you were weeping for your future self that is now realizing about Tucson what you didn't realize back then and never took advantage of.
Seems that David Mendez has missed the point of "Keep Tucson Shitty". We can have revitalization with out complete glossy gentrification, high priced fare and high rents that exclude many types of people and businesses that made downtown unique in the first place. And Donovan, see what you started!
RE: dw - Grimaldi's is flavorless chain pizza that comes NO WHERE NEAR Zach's and is no competition for Zach's original recipe which is craved by people all over the world.
