This is mystifying. If JTED was created from a Pima County referendum, why isn't the funding coming from Pima County's tax base? Why is this state-funded at all?

Lord, I'm glad I live outside city limits...

Here's an important reference that will point you historically in the correct direction: '“The degree of Republican support for the two bills actually exceeded the degree of Democratic support, and it’s also fair to say that Republicans took leading roles in both measures, even though they had far fewer seats, and thus less power, at the time,” PolitiFact said in a 2010 analysis of the GOP role in civil rights.'

David, you have a little problem with history, especially the line, "Sending dog whistles to racists has been part of the Republican Southern Strategy since the passage of Civil Rights legislation." It was the Democrats who were the party of racism in the civil rights era... The Civil Rights Act of 1964 passed with 80%+ Republican support. It was the Democrats who tried to scuttle it (including Al Gore, Sr., who voted against it).

While I'm of the opinion that, especially at state universities, tuition is much higher than at should be (mostly due to high administrative costs), what the Democrats' proposal will do is actually lower the value of higher education. I guarantee that it will also lower the quality to where people just won't go to a university unless they want a degree in highly theoretical sciences or mathematics.

If it doesn't cost you something, chances are it's not worth anything.

I wonder if this on-camera behavior is part of a pattern with him. Thoughtless, incendiary "gotcha!" posturing, especially on YouTube, does not display the soundest of judgment. If he were in charge of my money, I'd be looking elsewhere.

No one ever said free speech was without consequences. ;-)

    Re: “Live
Since when should reporting an event be colored by a writer's likes or dislikes? Very poor journalism.

Timmothy, have you seen 80s & Gentlemen, who won Best Cover Band? They play TWICE a week EVERY week, to busy houses (and sometimes—rarely—just to the staff). They are as professionally minded, and musically proficient as they come. Sure, they play covers, but they don't fit your "elite" label, playing rarely and only to rarefied attendance.

I'm not going to comment on LeeAnne's talent or ability, because I'm in her band and I have a strong opinion that will not benefit this discussion (heck, it's not germane anyway), but I can tell you that every vote that came in on behalf of LeeAnne was legitimately and enthusiastically sought and cast. As Mr. Boegle pointed out, those votes have to be courted. If you aren't willing to do the legwork on behalf of the bands you care for and think are better, then as the old adage goes: "if you don't vote, don't bitch."

Timmothy, 2013 could be your band's year. Don't waste time posting screed here. Go lay some groundwork to elevate your favorite musicians' profiles and get them on the ballot. It may be just the ticket to get them noticed.
