Science, compassion and common sense tells us that elephants do not belong in tiny zoo pens. It is the industry's selfish need to "have elephants" that causes them to deliver disingenuous reasons why they must be kept. True conservation takes place in the wild by many organizations that don't harm the very animal they claim to be "saving".
Science, compassion and common sense tells us that elephants don't belong in zoos.
They have evolved over 40 million years to become the highly intelligent and highly social animal that they are today. These basic needs are denied in the impoverished zoo environment. Children are learining that suffering is an accepted form of entertainment.
AZA is a trade organization which ignores science at the expense of elephants to advance their own agenda. All one has to do is look at their outdoor requirement for elephants: 1/3 of an acre. Shameful for this far-ranging, intelligent being.
