Tom: Thanks for giving some well deserved space to Edgar Rivera-Morales. Folks here in Agua Prieta are very proud of his accomplishments and we wish him the very best in his dream of going to London.
Oh, and by the way-----------what is your problem with futbol? Did you lose one of your star basketball players at Green Fields to the most popular sport on earth?
Agua Prieta, Son. Mex.
OK, Tom, I have resisted sending you a note for quite awhile, enduring your attacks on girls youth soccer in the U.S. and soccer worldwide---- I think you just don'understand the game, because if you did you would see all kinds of similarities to your beloved basketball.
But today I couldn't sit quietly and let your musings on your time in Douglas go unanswered. Yes, it was a million years ago, but if you think cosmopolitan means big box stores and a slew of greasy, fast-food chains, maybe I am wasting my time.
Yea, you could be correct in saying that one in every three people in this town of maybe, 14.000 inhabitants, wears some kind of uniform. But let's be honest, Douglas owes it's survival to that sprawling, dusty, town across the border. Agua Prieta is now somewhere around 175,00 inhabitants with a vigorous economy (although some of it illegal) . It is the Mexicans spending their money on the U.S. side that keeps Douglas on the map.
