Mr. Smith you continue to be the prohibitionists' best friend with your usage of their slang for cannabis -- pot and weed (and even marijuana). You are neck and neck with the major asswipe on this subject Howie Fischer of Arizona Capitol Times and stop being a flak for the dispensary industry. Call it cannabis or Mary Jane or the trees or the herb but "Pot" is the favorite word of the media when they are too goddamn lazy to use more than a 3 letter word. You have been the MMJ critic for an entire year and yet oddly you fail to cover the basic story in Tucson which is the police in direct contradiction of the intent of the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act and their reign of terror in using undercover cops and informants at the AZDHS to arrest, harass and generally try and crib death the MMJ program. Get your stoner arse out of your "pot haze" and start doing some real journalistic writing or else let someone else have your job.
It's a good policy for anyone wanting to stay safe, secure and not worry about a SWAT raid to stay off of CraigsList. Are you a plant for the po-po Mr. Smith? Why are you trying to get our patients in trouble by having them go on Craigslist to make a purchase of cannabis? Please be responsible since you are well read in the community and I don't always agree with you and your love of the dispensaries over the patients having the power but it is what it is. Mr. Humble is not going to be the AZDHS Director for much longer (a little birdie told me this) so hopefully the next Director won't be ignorant, hostile to the patients and educated about the plant.
Oh for Christ sake, Humble et al up at the AZDHS do not give a flying fuck about the patients but only pleasing their masters -- the dispensaries being run by the #1 worst run dispensary in the state -- Arizona Organix. I'm not sure where you are shopping Mr. Smith but several dispensaries in town are selling kief, hash oil for your eCig vape and tinctures, salves, drinks and all other manner of preparation that are all narcotic if you follow the criminal state law which of course MMJ patients are exempt from. No more patients are being arrested since the Paula Huff debacle and of course you have no interest in covering the real story about what is going on in our fair city where our overweight and overpaid Police Chief is being played like a cheap fiddle by the Pima County Narcotics Alliance.
Hemp Hemp Hooray Mr. Smith and I applaud your wonderful column today. I agree with you 100% and after 3 years of having MMJ in Arizona we're still at a point where our local police force are treating this as a crime (just ask Paula Huff how she likes serving a one year sentence for growing 11 plants with a valid card). We're fortunate that in Tucson we have several first class dispensaries serving the MMJ community with compassion and fair prices (Downtown Dispensary; Desert Re-Leaf; and Purple Meds). On October 21 of this year the 40,000 plus patients should be very happy when the Judge in the 25 Mile Lawsuit (Floyd & Cassidy) awards back our cultivation rights and Will Humble's head can explode and our program will finally be the model of the country with our dispensaries humming along and the patients finally getting back their grow rights.
Do you think you can get out of your 420 Haze for a minute and look at the reality of what is going on with our MMJ program in Tucson? Why is our police chief running amok and stating publicly that he thinks the Arizona Medical Marijuana Program is a "hoax" and in fact all the people on the program are recreational users and of course marijuana is a gateway drug. This backwards thinking has caused our City Council to be paralyzed when it comes to grandfathering in all the 4,000 plus patients with their grow rights. Tucson has passed land use zoning to allow for patients, caregivers and the dispensaries all to cultivate if they follow the rules. Dispensaries are to pay an annual $450.00 fee to the City of Tucson for doing a zoning compliance letter and the patients/caregivers do not need to file any paperwork they are good to go and the City Council knows this is the law of the land but someone (Mr. Smith possibly) needs to get on the record that the Pima County Narcotics Alliance (they already worked deals with Green Halo and Shop 420) is to leave the patients alone and not arrest any MMJ patients with valid cards. You have ignored the Paula Huff situation (she is a victim of our overzealous Pima County Attorney's Office) and why won't you cover this story? Shame on you Mr. Smith, Speaking Truth to Power does not approve!
Blah, blah, blah really Mr. Smith is this what you are reduced to writing about? What about the whole story about our Medical Marijuana program being stagnant? We only have 36,000 registered patients and a measly 700 caregivers (ridiculously low numbers). There are 40 CHAAs that don't even have one registered caregiver to take care of the folks that have cards but no one to grow medicine for them. What about the over 80 crowd (there are close to 100 patients in Arizona that are over 80 years old) and why is there no caregiver over the age of 80 to take care of the greatest generation folks that have Alzheimer's, Multiple Sclerosis, and Cancer? You just are living in your own little world of writing about stuff that the average person living in Tucson could care less about. Why aren't you talking about the Pima County Narcotics Alliance and their running buck wild and shredding our rights? Guess that's just asking too much of you Mr. Smith and do you even like writing a weekly column? You just seem so joyless to me and I wish we could have another viewpoint about the medical marijuana program than a stoner guy that's in his thirties.
Of course you are a huge fan of the legal drug cartels (dispensaries). The only problem Mr. Smith is these dispensaries are not LEGAL under the federal law (Controlled Substances Act) and have no safe harbor for the people that work there and own them. In fact these dispensaries in Arizona will be raided shortly and all of these people are facing Class 2 felonies (which is the most serious felony in Arizona). Dispensaries are in the business of dispensing and selling drugs and in this case only agencies possessing a DEA license (i.e. Oxford University pot farm) can even touch Schedule I drugs. Look it up and Eric Holder, Tom Horne, Barbara LaWall, Will Humble, all the attorney's in Arizona will tell you that the dispensaries are going to be hit very soon and the minimum sentencing for people engaged in selling drugs (first time offenders) is 5 - 10 years in prison do not pass go, do not collect your $200. Phoenix and Tucson dispensaries are going down and the paperwork is just getting coordinated so let your dispensary friends know they are going to be arrested and charged with Schedule II offenses and the patients/caregivers are under a 2811 Shield (Affirmative Defense) and they have safe harbor (per Tom Horne's Attorney General Opinion issued August 8, 2012).
