1330 KJLL switching to the Xmas tunes should reduce their royalty fees as quite a few I heard are likely public domain tunes with little to no royalty due.
In fact, for a while Sunday morning I wondered if they moved a chintzy Farfisa organ into their studio and somebody got free reign on it for ~half an hour; just instrumental Xmas based tunes.
Still, their electricity bill has to be high.
I've listened to KJLL [whatever it is now] 1330 AM off and on, more off than on lately, since late Sept when they did the bizarre rebirth from extended dead air.
At first they were not announcing their call letters nor location as fcc requires. Lately, if you listen closely around the top of the hour, they do an quick over announce on top of the Jacko track of their call letters, frequency and location. Still VERY bizarre.
Listened early Tues Oct 2nd a.m. to 1330 AM and they're now playing extended dance mixes of Michael Jackson and Jackson Five tunes. It's like they're tapping into a Sirius/XM feed, but there is absolutely no breaks nor human voice back announcing anything.
Not sure how they are able to keep doing this as it has to be killing them from a cash flow perspective -- no ad revenues, electricity bill to pay and significant royalty fees to a dead man's estate.
How about switching things up and playing some Patsy Cline, John Lennon, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, Waylon Jennings, Kurt Cobain, [insert your fave dead musician]?
1330 AM KWFM is back on the air . . . kinda.
When I listened Sunday Sept 30th it seemed to be a loop of Michael Jackson singles. Do not recall any type of announcements of their call letters and other stuff the FCC requires. Strange.
It is strange, CMac, as I thought KWFM were call letters of 92.9 FM & 1450 AM. But they've had major format changes, so not sure what they go by now.
Off Topic: Tom D -- I enjoyed watching your daughter and her team play in that 3 day tourney at Pima CC last week of Dec. They must have been a non-sanctioned team, right? Seemed weird to have players with jersey #s using digits 6-9, plus your daughter has to be beyond JuCo eligibility.
Thought some may find this article from Mother Jones of interest . . .
