Re: “A Broken Community

wow... terrible story, I'm sorry, I'm very disappointed in this last section. How can you interview only one person (the person that went over to the District), not interview any teachers in MAS (except the EMAIL from Sally Rusk) who are the victims of the Institutionalized racism, give only him the last word, and call this journalism? The in la kesh concept is corrupted here. Why wasn't Augie asked if he's practiced In La Kesh when he went over to the District??? In short, WE CANNNOT DENY that the RACIST REPUBLICANS GOT US REAL GOOD, their plan worked effectively: divide and conquer. Like Huppenthal stated in that right wing tv interview, they stretched out the community leaders and took people out. But WE also had our hand in our fall. We must learn from mistakes, ALL mistakes, and we must evaluate ourselves coherently. At this moment, Raza is NOT united, and I'm not sure how much this article works towards that unity... or if the writer even cares for that unity. It's a mess, but it's UNETHICAL for individuals to PROFIT FROM THE MESS. mis dos centavos...

Re: “City Councilwoman Regina Romero Has Opinions on Education, Particularly TUSD's Deseg Plan

Man, we need more educators and education specialists on chat boards. This is a lot of hearsay opinion (like school board Hicks& grand wizard Pedicone)... enough! Science (studies) shows that bilingual/bicultural children have healthier (more active, versatile) brains, so why the racism. US schools have taught US "exceptionalism"/"superiority" for decades, no whites ever raised resistance. Now a program reveals Chicano History and culture, makes students feel secure in school, raises their grades, and it is accused of "promoting resentment." That is backward-thinking. Stop consuming the ignorant hate that racist Republicans feed you! Come on people, do some homework, check your racisms (micro-aggressions towards Mexicans/Latinos) and get with the 21st Century! The MAS program was amazing (as hundreds of education specialists around the nation judged), bring MAS BACK!!!

Re: “A Community Divided

Overall very good update and perspective, especially that only a return of MAS Department is justice. Curtis Acosta letter spells out the conflict most clearly, the attack on MAS was political and racially motivated. Republicans (some on this chat board) are politically selfish, malicious (yes, racist), and essentially evil and if Christianity is true, they should go directly to hell. Some chatters are divisive and don't have a sense of community or cause; they need to CLEARLY evaluate what's at stake. The scary part for me is relying on the Federal Government for justice and clarity; yes, they SHOULD have a sense of justice, but how ethical has their leadership been in the past.

Re: “Guest Commentary

Mark stegman's arguments are specious: he wants to appear like he's "objective" but his ACTIONS, public record (including red-baiting), and his SHAMELESS ATTACK ("cult" statement) at the STATE TRIAL are clear proof that he sides with the RACIST attackers of MAS. At some point, Stegman, you need to look at yourself in the mirror, ADMIT to WHO you REALLY are and quit acting like you're some "objective" White Man that's "fair." And yes you and Huppnethal and Horne ARE RACIST (the most dangerous kind, ones in public office) -- you probabaly don't know what racism means because you've never taken Ethnic Studies classes.

Re: “Bring Knives to TUSD Board Meetings, Leave Civil Disobedience at Home

Two lessons from this latest incident: racial privilege (racist double standards exist) and the function of non-violent Raza/Ethnic Studies. Critical race theorists would likely pose a story: what if a brown beret attempted to go in with a machete, would we have the same outcome. It is more likely he would have been detained outside, possibly arrested for bringing in a "deadly weapon," and if he were to speak, it is unlikely Stegman would have defended his "right to rant" past allotted time. The fact is that white males have privileges, that racism exists. Secondly, this stands as a warning that the Gifford-like violence is not unlikely, and results from violent rhetoric espoused by right wing extremists. Public officials need to be held accountable, re-called or forced to resign, if they cannot run meetings fairly or ensure people's safety. Raza/Ethnic Studies ultimately creates inter-cultural understanding between groups. It does not invoke violence like the right does.

Re: “Update: Save Ethnic Studies Calls for Pedicone's Resignation

Curtis Acosta is clear-minded, articulate and direct. In most other states (the sane ones) Huppenthal would be in jail for this type of abuse of power. We should also consider how this is racist power: if a Mexican American public official was attacking White educators, with as much racially-motivated malicious intent, and corruption (inconsistent statements, lack of protocol, abuse of tax payer money), would he still be in office? I would think he'd be in chains. Huppenthal, Horne (and Pedicone?) and their cabal are in clear violation of US AND human rights laws and should be held accountable. The problem in Arizona is a Republican party gone wild. Progressive thinkers and leaders need to emerge, and not let MAS and the students stand alone. Acosta said it best: Dr. Pedicone's "consistent stance arresting elders and youth is a first option and civil discourse is a last resort." Me Again's ignorant (he didn't do homework on MAS high student performance) and greedy point of view are little obstacles of a struggle that will be won. Justice is on our side. Re: “Education vs. Fear

The way Arizona's Racists are behaving is disgusting. They should learn something from the way these Raza Studies students carry themselves and learn what they stand for. West Los Angeles educators highly respect the program, which we're very familiar with. Tom HOrne and his small mob should be exposed for their ties to white supremacist groups. The astrologers are right, we need another Mexican Revolution in 2010, and like MLK hoped, may it be of the mind...
