Former bleeding heart liberal grown up and educated; now responsible red-neck right-wing Conservative. Second generation Tucson native.
Wondering why nobody uses a real name in Tucson Weekly comments.
I may be the only supporter of Thucydides in Tucson, but calls for his resignation are premature. There are still citizens of Arizona who believe in hard work and personal responsibility.
Senator Melvin might have a point about the flags. It's not scientific, but on my street three flags are flown every day. On holidays there are four. That's fewer than a third of the houses on the street, but Republicans live in every one. I have a Republican friend in another state who flies his flag every day (retired military). I'm guessing Melvin could be fairly accurate in his neighborhood conclusions.
EPIC is not an appropriate word for a minor malfunction. Even the unopened snowflake was symbolic of the athletes themselves .... some perform spectacularly; some have unfortunate problems.
I love the Olympics - it's practically the only reason to own a television.
This is one of my favorite stories in a long time. Thank you!
"Standing up for his constituents" .... the illegal immigrants who voted for him?
They're just down the street from my house. I usually make my coffee at home, but I think I'll stop in some day. Nice story!
I'm surprised nobody mentioned how disgusted many Tucsonans were with the loud (cheering) political rally Obama held in our town after the shootings. It was attended by young Obamabots, some of whom got out of class for the day, and other unemployed supporters who stood in line for hours .... not to memorialize the victims, but to see and cheer for their hero Obama. Many of them probably didn't even know who Giffords was before the shooting, and the political event was totally inappropriate for the occasion.
