Former bleeding heart liberal grown up and educated; now responsible red-neck right-wing Conservative. Second generation Tucson native.
Wondering why nobody uses a real name in Tucson Weekly comments.
This is one of my favorite stories in a long time. Thank you!
"Standing up for his constituents" .... the illegal immigrants who voted for him?
They're just down the street from my house. I usually make my coffee at home, but I think I'll stop in some day. Nice story!
I'm surprised nobody mentioned how disgusted many Tucsonans were with the loud (cheering) political rally Obama held in our town after the shootings. It was attended by young Obamabots, some of whom got out of class for the day, and other unemployed supporters who stood in line for hours .... not to memorialize the victims, but to see and cheer for their hero Obama. Many of them probably didn't even know who Giffords was before the shooting, and the political event was totally inappropriate for the occasion.
How many others had broken spokes and bent wheels because of potholes and weird indentations in so many city streets? The toned muscles & other health benefits might not be worth the trouble and aggravation.
I just read Pie Town Woman. The people who survived on pinto beans & other garden vegetables & milk from their own cow could probably teach food stampers how to feed a whole community of people - with more nourishment too - on $4.00/day. Rural homesteaders in the 1940s probably fed themselves for less than 10 cents a day in today's money, and it wouldn't be a bad idea for our government welfare programs to hire someone with that kind of experience to hold mandatory classes for every spoiled wimp & clueless fool who thinks he or she has to have groceries bought by the taxpayers. Then maybe millions of Americans could avoid the shame of being on the dole!
OSHA is worthless. When an unsafe practice at Sun Van was reported, the fact that there was no law against it was the only response. Most modern countries in the world have laws - or at least guidelines - protecting workers that don't exist in the United States. No wonder there are so many Americans on workplace caused Social Security Disability.
