Let me show you the internal City of Tucson documents that shows Rio Nuevo actually does own this property and the City 'stole' it.
I am the former Treasurer of the reconstituted board. I especially enjoyed the author's comment that all of us must have done something really bad in a former life such that we were chosen to serve on the new board. From my experience, I knew the finances were bad. However, once we obtained more detailed information, it became clear things were worse than expected. It really is an impossible job serving on the new Rio Nuevo board. For some additional insight, the legislation creating the new board states that the new board members should have background in certain areas: construction, development, real estate law, finance,... The thought was that it would be beneficial to have people who had demonstrated success at building stuff, financing municipal projects, and law.
Shirley “Rio Nuevo” Scott: Voted to approve every lousy Rio Nuevo deal. Put Tucson taxpayers on the hook to guarantee almost $100 million of Rio Nuevo’s debt. Thank you Shirley – you need to be fired!!!
