I saw him in a restaurant shortly after he graduated and right before a UA football game. He had a cast on his leg. He was eatting with a couple of friends and I went up and told him he was my favorite UA football player ever (prior to that it was Bruce Hill) and he was so gracious. A great all around guy.
Tom, As usual I agree with you 100% but I have to point out a mistake. Rivera was born a Rivera to a Puerto Rican father. Here's a snopes.com article along with his UofA yearbook picture: http://www.snopes.com/media/celebrity/gera…
Actually, the case has been resolved. The District and plaintiffs agreed to enter into a consent decree that has not yet been terminated. But I agree with the rest of your statement.
Is this an unattributed letter or article? Very weird it doesn't have the author's name.
"Why are new employees' contributions being taken to pay existing retirees in the first place?" That's because that's the way defined benefit pensions work. Existing employees pay into a trust fund that throws off interest to pay retirees. Its not a problem with the system-its how they work.
"The other problem that stems from the first is horrible mismanagement. The trustees of the pension should bear some responsibility. Why aren't they being sued or prosecuted?" Since you sound so knowledgeable perhaps you could tell us some examples. Tucson Supplemental Retirement System's books are open, its CAFR's are frelly available online, and their meetings are open to the public. I'm attend many-never seen you at one. Perhaps you can tell us what TSRS's unfunded liability is. Or even explain what it means. Or maybe you're just a reactionary right wing troll.
What makes less sense CW13 is that you read a column written by someone you despise. Why waste your time reading and commenting if you can't stand him?
The Star's website is a train wreck. It looks like an arcade game when you open it up and finding actual news articles is a task. Not to mention that there's so many pop ups, slide in, and flashing ads that it takes forever to load. I hate it.
