Re: “Editor's Note

You think? Maybe if third party movements could get their shit together they could have a bigger voice and actually help shape policy. They haven't yet, with the regrettable exception of Nader, who helped give us W & Cheney. Thanks, Ralph. Bernie was able to pull the Democratic Party to the left because he ran as one, plain and simple.

Re: “TUSD Enrollment, 2000 to 2016

This is interesting. TUSD lost more teachers in 2015-16 than it lost students. In the 3 years under Dr. Sanchez, TUSD has lost about 1200 teachers out of 2500 teachers. There have been over twice as many resignations as retirements. TUSD is losing teachers faster than it can hire them.

Re: “Desert Angel

Joel has been this man you see, since we attended High School in Berlin, Germany. He is a giving, serving, compassionate man, who works to guarantee that a human being has access to the most basic and necessary thing, a glass of water. I cannot in my heart begrudge another human being, a glass of water. If you can, may God have mercy on you, in that day you see Him.

Re: “Desert Angel

As a volunteer driver for Humane Borders myself, I have witnessed the extraordinary dedication, knowledge, and skill that Joel Smith brings to our humanitarian mission. Every one of us looks up to this incredible person for guidance.

We don't take sides in the immigration debate. Our mission is to save lives.

I have a few questions for the haters and twisted souls who vandalize our water stations and call us criminals and other bad names. Do you really believe that undocumented migrants deserve the death penalty? Don't these desperate people, as fellow human beings, deserve our kindness? Have you read the Sermon on the Mount lately?

Re: “Review: Hillary’s America: the Secret History of the Democratic Party

Thanks, but no thanks. I'd rather drink beer with the chickenshits. D'Souza's nothing but a propagandist, like Michael Moore. And a heavy-handed one at that, like Michael Moore. Sure doesn't sound like a good time to me. Or an informative one.

Re: “Editor's Note

What exactly makes you think your vote for Clinton in Arizona will do anything at all to prevent a Trump victory? Arizona's electoral votes are going to Trump, end of story. If you don't believe that, you're living in a far more fantastical land than Bernie supporters were accused of when they called for free tuition and Medicare for all. There are about 28 states in the union responsible for preventing a Trump victory, and we ain't one of em.

A vote for Gary Johnson or Jill Stein (if she manages to get on the ballot after the Green Party deadline fiasco) goes a lot further in actually helping the country - increasing their vote percentages can lead to third-party participation in future debates and allow them to qualify for additional funding. In fact, by wasting your vote on Clinton in an overwhelmingly Trump state, you're doing damage to the country by signaling support of Hillary Clinton's neoliberal mandate.

Re: “Editor's Note

Sorry, Mari, but the only reason that third parties don't win is because people don't vote for them.

There's no way I can vote for Clinton, who approved of thousands of refugee children being sent back to danger to "send a message to their parents." I can't vote for someone who has brokered some of the largest international arms sales in history (can you say cluster bombs?) but then claims she's for "gun control." I will not vote for someone who thinks that the U.S. has the right to intervene in other countries' elections (e.g., Honduras), while she oversaw the theft of the Dem primary (…). I could go on and on.

I refuse to vote against my conscience and my values. No one, even you, seems able to make a reasonable argument for why anyone should vote for Clinton except "OMG Trump!" The DNC built this, they own it, but they don't own me. We've been saying for months that Clinton cannot win against Trump, but we have been ignored.

I'm voting Jill Stein, Green Party. I hope you join me.

Re: “Wednesday at the DNC

If you're more concerned about the possible source of the #DNCLeak -- completely unproven at this point and promoted by the same media that are in collusion with the DNC -- than about the fact that the Dem primaries were rigged (see recent remarks by Harry Reid), then you are the reason that so many of us will never support Clinton, no matter how much fearmongering you attempt.

No, Clinton would NOT have won without the DNC's thumb on the scale, stealing or tossing out the votes of thousands (perhaps millions) of citizens and feeding false stories to the media. In sports, when someone is proved to have cheated, their "win" is rescinded. Why do we have lower standards for "democracy"? released a report that said: "In our research we examined the election results of the 2016 presidential primaries, and found irregularities in the overwhelming majority of the twenty-one states that we analyzed. The data indicates, in particular, that the totals reported on the Democratic side in the race between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders may not be correct. In state after state, independent examination by two separate analysts found suspect statistical patterns giving Clinton inflated percentages, that in all likelihood, are not fully based on actual votes, and showing Sanders with what appear to be artificially depressed totals."

Check out the details yourself.…

We have some of the most corrupt elections in the industrialized world, and you want us to fall in line? Not happening.

Re: “TUSD Enrollment, 2000 to 2016, Part 2

Let's leave aside for the time being the excellent question raised by a commenter on your previous piece on this topic, "What makes you think the data is accurate?"

That commenter pointed out that representatives of this district have a track record, during the last three years, of repeatedly being caught in lies in communications with the public, and that given what we've seen in the past, these behaviors seem likely to occur in cases where what is being reported is politically useful (e.g. enrollment figures given immediately preceding a board election).

You write, "That means that during the last two years, HOLDING ONTO students for the entire school year had a significant role in slowing the overall decrease of students." You seem to like that term "holding onto," which you use repeatedly throughout the piece.

But the numbers don't necessarily mean what you suggest. Overall enrollment change during any period reflects transfers in as well as transfers out, something that was previously pointed out to you in discussions of UHS enrollment. If enrollment at the beginning of the year was 1000 and at the end was 995, it doesn't necessarily mean the district "held onto 995 students for the entire school year." It may mean that the district lost 30 and gained 25 during the course of the school year.

As commenters have written many times, you have to be on the sites in this district to understand what the numbers mean. Gaming the numbers in various ways is a standard-issue administrative practice. You have not been on the sites, and you never make the effort to talk to those on the sites who might be able to help you understand what is ACTUALLY going on, as opposed to what the numbers the district produces suggest is going on.

(What happened with that audit report not too long ago, David? Did it confirm the % of classroom vs. admin spending the district had been self-reporting?)

Re: “TUSD Enrollment, 2000 to 2016, Part 2

Now it makes sense. As the students aged and the discipline problems became greater the parents took their kids and left. It's also the same time frame that the ADS had an online comments section where parents and teachers could post their stories without identifying themselves. (Out of fear of retribution.) This has gone on in TUSD since the mid 90s when the board was taken over by radicals.

At this point it is much like trying to drag the Titanic off the ocean floor. It's found peace right where it is at.

Peace on TUSD. Before they peace on you.
