we used to get them at El Torero on 24th? off South 4th.
@Monkey: Love that your IP address originates from TNI, however. At least when I criticize your organization, I sign my name.
@Monkey: Wasn't planning on it. But I will take your anonymous, poorly formatted suggestion under advisement.
The CEO of Wick resigned today; when are you tendering your's?
Minimum wage in AZ is $7.80 if you don't make tips, and $4.80 if you do.
MisterBill, if your employer took your money, you would likely consider it theft. Most folks consider theft to be illegal - even when an employer in a right-to-work state considers it their right. Based on experience, it's doubtful AZ DOL will possess the willingness to provide justice for the staff. The servers will probably have to get used to it or move on. When AZ employers hire the right lawyers they tend to do whatever they want, no matter how outrageous the conduct to staff and customers. see "Heated Environment"
This is Arizona, where employer knows they can get away with almost any amount of dishonesty or abuse towards a customer or employee. No legal protections will apply, just ask Michelle M. "Heated Environment" - http://www.tucsonweekly.com/tucson/heated-environment/Content?oid=3643260
@rconnelly
I've eaten my share of fry bread at San Xavier and elsewhere. It's definitely a good Southwestern traditional indian treat, it's also a very different experience than a great sopapilla.
Sopapillas are often served up in a basket, especially as a dessert treat. They're very commonly served in New Mexican restaurants. A good sopapilla is really like a airy "pillow" more air than fried bread. You bite off one of the corners and use honey for a real treat.
Tania's is only a few blocks away and is fantastic !!!!
I learned as a child from a person who swore constantly that swearing uncontrollably was the sign of a weak vocabulary. Sixty years later I still find that to be true. I still believe important thoughts can be conveyed with better language than obscenities.
@JCC
Have you ever had the fry bread at San Xavier? Served most Sundays, I believe.
Joe, I checked out your links to "Home is where the Holmans are" and Amy's blog page and the photos of the devil's food cake cupcake are identical. Wow, more wacky thievery from these two!
AZ/DC: ",,,,,,,Mammey thinks it is not well mannered to use cursing in these posts, but it is perfectly acceptable to tell someone (me) to go commit suicide. I smell a hypocritical rat......."
AZ/DC, why would you attack me on this issue, rather than the quack doctors prescribing Prozac, and other suicide causing agents dispensed like candy to an unsuspecting public? The suicide problem's out of control and you've no interest in working on it? Shame dude.
ANSWER: If one has no argument of value, zilch, nada, none, then one attacks, personally, the opposition. I see you not as the opposition, just someone too lazy to develop their own argument on the issues at hand. Go back to school dude, you apparently need some academic training. Join the debate club and learn the rules of a rational argument.
I like using the sweet, musical Spanish "mierda" more than the harsher English "shit."
I also like the sound of "pendejo."
When the UN starts feeding themselves bugs while they're in NYC I'll consider it.
Her health care plan? Her plan was to watch poor people die. The only reason she's trying to expand Medicaid now is that the Feds are picking up the tab.
I have been swearing, sometimes uncontrollably for the last 55 years or so. I am 60. There are times when public swearing bothers me like when I am at the zoo with my grand kids and people let the F-Bombs drop. Once when my cute little innocent daughter was about 3 or 4 she politely asked that someone "pass the goddamn catsup please". My wife shot me a dirty look that would have shattered plate glass. I hadn't said a thing (for a change). I like the RANGE and TUCSON WEEKLY for it's information and general politics, but sometimes when difficult topics are discussed (especially gun control etc) it seems to undermine strong and intelligent logic when F-Bombs or other swear words are used. When intellect and logic or truth are used to make a cogent point, swear words, vulgarities or name calling compromise the argument with unneeded emotion. Logic and truth are difficult to argue against, but one can always yell louder, or think of a more clever way to tell someone to fuck off. My wife never heard her father utter the F-word. I heard him say it only 3 times in his entire life, and each time it blew my mind. I had the utmost respect for him. He was the last of the culture of true gentlemen. How often and under what circumstances one uses powerful language has a lot to do with that words potency. Sometimes I dream nostalgically for a time when public decorum and gentlemanliness were characteristics of integrity and civility, but those days are past us, and I probably would not fit in that culture too well.
Melvin says, "We're not going to roll over and play dead."
But apparently he if OK with too many poor without healthcare rolling over and being dead.
Wouldn't it be terrific if one of those big Wizard of Oz tornadoes took Saddlebrooke and spun it over to Iowa where it belongs.
Re: “The Folks at Amy's Baking Company In Scottsdale Have Gone Insane [Update: They Were 'Hacked']”
misrepresenting, there is a difference between what is legal and what is right. I don't dispute that they should not be keeping the tips (or they need to notify customers what they do) and it is NOT right.
The question is whether what they are doing is illegal, as has been claimed here. I would love to have someone who has eaten there post a receipt so we can see who it says your server was. Remember that Samy was entering all the orders into the POS system by himself. What are the odds that the receipt has the correct server's name on it? I know that Mario Batali was fined millions of dollars by NY last year for sharing his server's tips with other staff. But that was a MUCH different situation. Those servers were considered tipped employees. ABC is paying a full wage that does not rely on tips to get minimum wage. That may exempt them from any problems that ensue from not giving the tips to the employees. Also think of this -- they've gone through 100+ employees (many/most of whom likely left under bad circumstances). You don't think that at least one of them went to the state labor department to ask them to investigate this?
